Can you identify Cemplank Siding?

Home inspectors and other professionals sometimes want to identify the manufacturer of different siding materials.  Some siding is easier to identify than others.  Others have very distinct identifying characteristics–such as the famous “LP Knot” of Louisiana Pacific, OSB siding.

Cemplank, a cement board siding similar to Hardiplank, has several repetitive markings that make it easier to identify in the field.  There are several manufacturers of cement board siding and it is important to not just assume they are Hardiplank–or some other manufacturer.  Unless the manufacturer can be determined, they should be referred to as “cement board.”  Hopefully with the pictures below, one will be able to identify Cemplank.
