He would be grouchy if he had to inspect the chimney and it looked like this.

Too much ivy is never enough I guess.  The ivy on this chimney was actually holding some bricks in place—keeping them from falling onto the heads of people using the Entryway below.

Ivy can be very damaging to brick chimneys and can find its way into the wall structures and end up filling up attics, walls.  It can even find its way into the interior under baseboards and around window trim.

Any pathway into the structure that ivy can find, so can moisture, insects and rodents.

That is why vegetation covering the home is considered a “conducive condition” by the State of Washington and must be reported as such by a Licensed Home Inspector and/or Licensed Structural Pest Inspector.
